49 more dengue patients hospitalised in Bangladesh

At least 49 more dengue patients were hospitalised across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours till Friday morning taking the official number of hospitalisation to 61,138 this year.

Of the fresh hospitalisation, 28 were reported in Dhaka city and 21 at places outside the capital, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services.

The mosquito-borne viral disease killed 269 people across the country this year.

This year marked the highest official death toll and second highest hospitalisation since 2000, when the government started keeping records of dengue death and hospitalisation, according to official data.

No death was reported between January and May. One died in June, nine in July, 11 in August, 34 in September, 86 in October,113 in November and 15 in 15 days of December, according to official data.

Of the dengue deaths, 167 died in Dhaka city, one each in Narsingdi and Madaripur districts, 63 in Chattogram division, 12 in Khulna, 12 in Barishal, 6 in Mymensingh and 7 in Rajshahi divisions.

Of the hospitalisation, 126 were reported in January, 20 each in February and March, 23 in April, 737 in June, 1,571 in July, 3,521 in August, 9,911 in September, 21,932 in October, 19,334 in November and 3,780 in 15 days of December, according to official data.

Currently, 774 patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country and 523 in 53 Dhaka city hospitals with the mosquito-borne viral disease.
